In 2022, unemployment in Libya was higher among women. The female and male unemployment rates in the country were estimated at 26.5 percent and 15.6 percent, respectively. From 2010 onwards, the gender gap in employment remained significant. Libya recorded one of the highest female unemployment rates in Africa in 2019.
