In October 2024, South Korea's central bank reduced the base rate to 3.25 percent. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bank of Korea had previously lowered the base rate to a record low of 0.5 percent in May 2020, cutting it from 1.25 percent. Since then, the rate has gradually increased.
