Light-duty trucks are the largest source of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, having released nearly 660 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. Meanwhile, passenger cars produced roughly 370 MtCO₂e that year, a decrease of roughly 43 percent in comparison to 1990 levels.
