As of 2019, 18.7 percent of children in primary-school-age were not enrolled in primary or secondary education in Sub-Saharan Africa. In numbers, there were roughly 33.8 million youth out of school in the region. Overall, the share of children not in education in Sub-Saharan Africa has decreased from 39 percent in 2000.
