COVID-19 impact on mobile phone purchase reasons by low income groups in India 2020

In September 2020, after the first wave of Covid-19 infections in India, 93 percent of strugglers with an income of less than 150 thousand Indian rupees annually, responded that the main reason for mobile phone purchases was a functional advantage. For only 3 percent an upgradation triggered a purchase. Before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in India in March 2020, upgradation was quoted as a reason for buying a new phone more often. Also experimental and spontaneous purchases were more often in low income groups. Among affluent income groups a similar, but less drastic change can be observed, but experimental purchases among affluent groups are more dominant.
