Distribution of young people in East Africa 2000-2040, by educational level
According to projections, 14 percent of the young people aged 15-29 years in East Africa had upper secondary or tertiary education in 2020, increasing from a small share of five percent in 2000. Following the current trend, the proportion of youth with higher levels of education could reach 25 percent in 2040. Likewise, the share of young East Africans with primary or lower secondary education was projected to expand from 49 percent in 2020 to 57 percent in 2040.
