French men's perception of male privilege in a range of areas of society 2019, by age
Gender dominance relationships are sometimes subject to rather surprising denials. However, in 2019, a majority of French men (two thirds according to the source) agreed that the social status of man still brought benefits in a number of areas of society. Closer observation also reveals that, in contrast to some common perceptions, awareness of these privileges was higher among those over 50 than among younger people (only about half of 18-24 year olds acknowledged the benefits of their position). However, these privileges require conformity to a number of norms associated with masculinity, and it seems interesting to note that it is also the youngest who seem to be most affected by these injunctions.
