As of 2022, about 89 percent of respondents of a pre-budget survey conducted across India stated that schools should be provided with further financial assistance by the government as part of the union budget plan for fiscal year 2023 so as to reduce the country's dropout rate. India's education sector was also adversely affected during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the uneven distribution of resources and digital education being inaccessible to children of underprivileged families.
