Gross national product (GNP) composition of Czechoslovakia by sector 1937-1967

Unlike most other Eastern European countries, at the outbreak of the Second World War, Czechoslovakia's industrial sector was already the largest contributor to the country's GNP. It made up almost 31 percent of the country's total GNP, and this share grew to 45 percent over the next three decades. The agricultural sector made up a similar share of the total, GNP in 1937, although it dropped to just 12 percent in 1967. The sector that saw the largest growth, however, was transport and communication, almost tripling from 4.4 percent in 1937 to 12.8 percent in 1967.
