Care homes funded by the NHS in the UK 2021, by region
In 2021, 12 percent of care homes in the United Kingdom derived their funding from the NHS. However, there are regional differences in terms of care home funding sources. In 2021, for instance, 16.5 percent of care homes in Wales were funded by the NHS, whereas no care homes were funded by the NHS in Northern Ireland, where care homes financed by local authorities are more common. Indeed, local authorities or private pay are the most common financing sources for care homes across the UK.
