In the 1950s and 1960s, employment grew by approximately 1.7 percent each year across Eastern Europe; the rate remained the same in both the 1950s and 1960s, however it varied greatly by region. Overall, the Soviet Union and Poland saw the highest annual growth rates, at 2 and 1.8 percent respectively; while East Germany and Bulgaria saw the lowest growth in employment, with 0.4 and 0.5 percent respectively. As was the case with overall development, there is a correlation between the development of former-Allied and Axis powers; excluding Yugoslavia, the former-Allied nations experienced the fastest growth, and it increased from the 1950s into the 1960s, whereas the former-Axis nations saw slower employment growth, which decreased over the course of this period.
