In the United States, special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) targeting the technology sector raised the most funds in 2020. This was followed by SPACs with no targeted sector, which raised approximately 11.3 billion U.S. dollars. The top three is completed by SPACs targeting more than one sector which raised approximately 10.7 billion U.S. dollars. A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) is a company with no business operations which is set up for the sole purpose of raising capital through an initial public offering (IPO), with the goal of buying an existing company.
