Automobiles and components, and software were the most popular sectors for SPAC mergers and acquisitions worldwide in first three months of 2021. The value of SPAC M&A deals in the automobiles and components sector reached 24.8 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter. A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) is a company with no business operations which is set up for the sole purpose of raising capital through an initial public offering with the goal of buying an existing company. Since mid-2020, SPAC acquisitions have been increasing month-on-month.
