Number of slaves carried by each nation in the intra-American slave trade 1526-1841

During the intra-American slave trade, which dealt with the exchange of slaves between two points in the Americas, the most active nation in this trade at sea was Britain. Over 190,000 captives embarked on ships flying British flags within this trade. Compared with the Atlantic slave trade, Portugal carried the largest amount of slaves across the Atlantic, but their involvement by sea in the intra-American slave trade was much lower. It is important to remember, however, that these exchanges refer to sales where the captives were transported by ship, and the number of overland sales is thought to have been significantly higher.
