The number of hate crimes reported to the police in Canada in 2020 amounted to 2,669. Compared to the previous year, the number of hate crimes increased. The most common motivation behind such crime is race or ethnicity as well as religion. In 2020, 1,595cases were motivated by race or ethnicity, while 515 by religion.
