Opinion on European Super League features in Europe 2021

First announced in April 2021, the European Super League was a controversial planned soccer competition to be contested among a select group of 20 clubs from across the European domestic leagues. Many fans, pundits, and players spoke out against the proposed league, stating that the new setup would be against the competitive nature of the current leagues and competitions and that it would have been a "closed shop" for some of Europe's richest clubs. During an April 2021 survey in five European countries, 36 percent of respondents strongly opposed the idea that the 15 Founding Clubs would receive major funding at the start of each season regardless of their performance.
