The total cost of social media shutdowns in that year amounted to around 21.6 billion U.S. dollars. In the following year, the cost amounted to four billion U.S. dollars. Russia's internet shutdowns were the most costly worldwide in 2022. The total duration of shutdowns in 2022 exceeded 7,400 hours.
