Pix' transactions in 2023 especially took place in B2B and peer-to-peer (P2P) settings, as companies and individuals sent each other money. In May 2023, roughly 405 billion Brazilian reals were transferred from person to person (P2P) using Pix. Business-to-business (B2B) Pix transactions amounted to over 449.8 billion reals that month. Pix is widely regarded as one of the more important instant payment systems - much like UPI in India or CoDi in Mexico - as they are deliberately designed to convert a relatively high unbanked Brazilian population into using more digital payments.
