Pix' transaction count in 2023 was the largest in the peer-to-peer (P2P) and P2B environments, making up 89 percent of the total number of transactions. In May 2023, roughly 1.6 billion P2P transactions were made using Pix. Business-to-business (B2B) Pix transactions - one of the main segments in terms of transaction value - consisted of only 84 million transactions that month. Pix is widely regarded as one of the more important instant payment systems - much like UPI in India or CoDi in Mexico - as they are deliberately designed to convert a relatively high unbanked Brazilian population into using more digital payments.
