As of 2020, nearly 490 thousand people lived in Kenya under the condition of refugees or asylum seekers. Most of them arrived from the neighbor Somalia. The number declined by over 100 thousand in comparison to 2015. That year, there were almost 594 million refugees and asylum seekers in the country, the highest amount registered in the years under review.
