
Estimated economic cost of Maharashtra COVID-19 lockdown India 2021, by sector
The second wave of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in India saw the highest share of infections from Maharashtra. Incidentally, this was also the state that contributed most, at about 15 percent, in terms of GDP to the country. Estimates of the lockdown imposed in April 2021 across the state put economic losses at nearly 400 billion Indian rupees for the entire country. The most affected sectors included trade, hotels, transport and storage.
