According to a September 2020 survey of online adults in the United States, the most recurring types of online harassments across all age groups were offensive name-calling and purposeful embarrassment. While physical threats, stalking, sustained harassment, and sexual harassment appeared to affect U.S. users less often than other types of abuse, younger adults aged 30 or under reported a higher victimization rate than other age groups in these categories. Sexual harassment in online settings, which affected 11 percent of survey respondents, is reportedly higher among respondents aged 18 to 29.
