Chinese investments within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are generally geared towards Asian countries. While the share of Chinese BRI investments in Sub-Saharan Africa and West Asia dropped significantly in 2022, those to the Arab Middle East and North Africa increased.
