During the period between four weeks before until one week after the start of Ramadan in Malaysia in 2020, travel apps saw the highest decline in revenue pre-Ramadan. Ramadan in Malaysia usually sees a large movement of people, mostly from urban centers back to their hometowns. This annual migration during this festive period is referred to as 'balik kampung'. However, due to the pandemic, this event was prohibited in 2020 and overall interest in traveling declined due to COVID-19.
