In financial year 2020, the demand for steel from the Bharatmala scheme in India was estimated to about 20 million metric tons. This scheme was launched with the aim to construct about 83 thousand kilometers of roads across India to improve connectivity. Still in the planning phase is the Udaan project, for which around nine million metric tons of steel had been calculated to built new airports.
