Per capita plastic waste generation worldwide 2016, by select country
The United States produces the most plastic waste per capita worldwide, with the average American producing 130.09 kilograms of plastic waste per year. The U.S. generated more than 42 million metric tons of plastic waste in 2016, making it by far the world's biggest plastic waste generator. In comparison, China produced a a total of 21.6 million metric tons of plastic waste in 2016, which amounted to an average of 15.67 kilograms per capita.
