According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in February 2021, around one third of consumers in Japan experienced an increase in occasions in which they cooked at home. At the same time, a similar share saw a decline in their home cooking habits.
Following the outbreak of the global pandemic, foodservice businesses were requested to close down or shorten opening hours in Japan. Furthermore, consumers were requested to remain at home and avoid going out unnecessarily.
