In the Polish Patent Office, 3323 invention applications were filed in 2022, a decrease of 4.7 percent compared to the previous year. Since 2005, the number of invention applications filed by foreign entities in the Polish Patent Office has declined. This decrease was caused by Poland's accession to the European Patent Organization in 2004. This institution was established to grant the so-called European patent, which allows obtaining protection of an invention in all countries that are party to the European Patent Convention and indicated in the European Patent Office application. Since 2006, applications filed by domestic entities have prevailed.
