In 2020, Argentina and Brazil concentrated over 80 percent of the startup ecosystem value in Latin America. Argentina, with the largest share, accounted for 45 percent, followed closely by Brazil with 41 percent. In 2019, Brazil was the country with the highest new business ownership rate in the region, with nearly 16 percent of population aged 18 to 64 owning or managing a new business.

it considers technology-based private companies born in Latin America and the Caribbean and owned by founders from the region. It includes companies that have raised more than one million U.S. dollars of capital and with an estimated value of six million U.S. dollars or more.
