
Additional number of extreme poor due to COVID-19 in Africa 2020-2022
According to estimates, the number of people living in extreme poverty in Africa increased by approximately 15 million in 2022 compared to the previous year. Previously, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic contributed to pushing around 30 million individuals into extreme poverty in 2020, and nearly 39 million in 2021. People in extreme poverty are individuals living with less than 1.90 U.S. dollars per day.
