According to a survey conducted in June 2020 in Japan, more than 27 percent of respondents stated that they increased takeout orders from foodservice establishments during the self-restraint period of the coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, almost 59 percent of respondents decreased their visits at shopping malls.
While an explicit lockdown was not enforced on a national level in Japan, businesses were asked to reduce business hours or close down voluntarily. Additionally, citizens were asked to practice self-restraint and refrain from going out unnecessarily.
