COVID-19 impact on attendance at leading art museums worldwide 2019-2022
Attendance at the Louvre in Paris, the most visited art museum worldwide, bounced back in 2022, following a sharp drop with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the number of visitors at the renowned museum totaled over 7.7 million in 2022, denoting a decline of around 20 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels. Meanwhile, the Vatican Museums and British Museum followed on the ranking in 2022, welcoming roughly 5.1 million and 4.1 million visitors, respectively.
