In 2019, the majority of the international migrants in Ghana were between the ages of 20 and 64 years (72.6 percent). Moreover, people 19 years and younger, as well as above the age of 65 years, covered 22.9 percent and 4.5 percent of the total migrant population in Ghana, respectively. Overall, the foreign-born population in the country added up to around 4.67 million people in 2019, representing only 1.5 percent of Ghana's total population. Compared to a decade earlier, the number of migrants in the country more than doubled.

The source defines international migrants as "the midyear (1 July) estimate of the number of people living in a country or area other than that in which they were born. Where the number of foreign-born was not available, the estimate refers to the number of people living in a country other than that of their citizenship".
It specifies that estimates of the migrant stock were based on the foreign-born population.
