In 2021, single-use menstrual protection was the most commonly used device among menstruating individuals (more than two out of five menstruating students used single-use pads, and nearly a quarter used single-use tampons). This is partly due to the ease of access and use of these devices, as well as their lower short-term cost, but also due to the strong advertising by the multinational companies that produce them. However, a substantial proportion of respondents reported using reusable protection: 11 percent used menstrual panties and more than ten percent used menstrual cups.
