Nearly 30 percent of smokers in the Netherlands indicated that they increased their smoking during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. This suggests that the consequences of COVID-19 and the Dutch government's measures to restrict public life may have lead to enhanced smoking behavior. This development counters the downward trend of smoking behavior in the Netherlands over the past decade.
