The Ministry of Education was the main funder of higher education in France in 2022. The payments allocated by the ministry amounted to more than 17 billion euros that year. Households, notably through tuition fees, were the third largest funders of higher education. Businesses and private funders also invested in higher education in France, with a total spending of about 7.1 billion euros.
