Iron ore was one of the most produced mineral commodities based on volume globally in 2023, as its production stood at approximately 2.5 billion metric tons. On the other end of the volume scale, the global production of platinum in 2023 stood at roughly 180 metric tons, as only a handful of countries produce this commodity on a large scale. Because the quantities available and the quantities required for the end uses of each mineral commodity vary so much, these stark differences in production volumes can be understood.
