Major sporting events are about much more than just what happens on the field. Thousands of fans gather in stadiums and millions more watch back home with friends and families. As a result, the alcohol is often flowing during these sporting events as a way or enjoying the spectacle or even calming matchday nerves. In a 2021 survey in the United States, some 49 percent of NFL fans stated that took part in binge drinking during football games.
