Main creditor countries to Africa 2019
China was the main bilateral creditor to African economies in 2019, with a share of 13 percent of the continent's total external debt stock. The United States followed, owning four percent of the foreign debt, while France had a share of 2.9 percent in the cumulated debt. Overall, external debt in Sub-Saharan Africa has been increasing and reached 625 million U.S. dollars in 2019.
