In 2021, subbituminous coal accounted for over two thirds of Brazil's coal production, amounting to more than five million short tons. Meanwhile, lignite represented around 28.5 percent of Brazilian production of coal, at some 2.1 million short tons. That same year, coal production in Brazil reached roughly 7.35 million short tons.
