Fraud and system downtime were the main challenges cited for the use of mobile money in Kenya as of 2019. Each issue was mentioned by some 21 percent of respondents. Mobile money is widely used in Kenya. In January 2021, the country had some 66.6 million registered mobile money accounts, a figure that has been steadily growing.
