Share of APA beneficiaries in France 2018, by gender
Progress in medicine contributed to human longevity. Nevertheless, under the effect of the population aging, the proportion of dependent persons tended to increase over time. To measure the autonomy level among the French elderly population, institutions used indicators such as the beneficiaries of the Personalized Autonomy Allowance (APA). At the end of 2018, this social assistance was granted to 56 percent of women and 44 percent of men in France.
