Among the apps that were required to be preinstalled on smartphones and tablets in Russia, the most popular by downloads in 2023 were Yandex, a browser with the voice assistant Alice, and VK, a social network. The e-government app Gosuslugi ranked third.
The requirement for smartphones and tablets sold in Russia to have specific apps preinstalled exists since April 1, 2021. The list of apps has been updated regularly. Since 2024, several apps also have to be preinstalled on smart TVs.
