Between 2017 and 2019, most female venture capital partners became general partners from executive or operating roles. In 2019, half of female VC partners joined from an executive or operating role, 16 percent higher than the previous year. The percentage of women who moved from one VC firm to another in order to make partner decreased from 21 percent in 2018 to 15 percent in 2019. There was a slight decrease in the percentage of women who became partners for the first time by launching their own funds, from 21 percent in 2018 to 17 percent in 2019. The percentage of women who became partner through a promotion also decreased from 24 percent in 2018 to 17 percent in 2019.
