A survey conducted in July 2021 reported that 48 percent of respondents in Taiwan and 69 percent in Hong Kong attempted to forgo cash payments at some point. Nearly half of the surveyed consumers living in Macao also reported having tried to go cashless. According to the source, most managed at least a few days without cash, with one out of four saying they lasted more than a week.

According to the source, the survey was conducted with 2,000 consumers living in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
For Hong Kong and Taiwan, the surveys were done using online intervies, whereas in Macao, interviews were conducted face-to-face, via street intercepts.
