Startup founders of both genders spent more time caregiving during the pandemic than they did pre-COVID. Prior to the pandemic outbreak, only 11 percent of female founders with family members living at home reported spending seven hours or more daily on caregiving. This proportion grew to 52 percent during the pandemic. No male founders with family members living at home reported spending seven or more hours a day on caregiving prior to COVID-19. However, during the pandemic, this proportion increased to 26 percent of male founders.
