Angola borrowed around 42.6 billion U.S. dollars from China in the period between 2000 and 2019. The value refers to loan commitments signed between Chinese financiers and the Angolan government as well as Sonangol, the state-owned oil company. During the period in study, Chinese credit granted to Angola peaked at 19 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. At that year, the volume of loans was also at its highest.
