According to a survey conducted on plastic shopping bags in Japan, with 64 percent, the majority of respondents stated that they tried to decline plastic shopping bags even before July 2020. To reduce the volume of plastic waste, the Japanese government prohibited all retail shops in the country from distributing plastic shopping bags for free starting from July 2020.
