New Aquitaine was the region with the most clubs affiliated to the French surfing federation in France in 2020. Brittany was also a land of surfing, ranking second with 50 surf clubs over the same year. The Breton region benefits from a large coastline exposed to all swells. Île-de-France, although lacking in coastline, had two affiliated clubs.

The source adds the following information: "The 2020 count corresponds, depending on the organization of the federations, to the year 2020, to the 2019-2020 season, or even to other specific periods ending in 2020. The health crisis, which began in March 2020, affects the count in two ways: cancellation of one-off sports events, training sessions and competitions; and the inability of some clubs to submit all the information to the federation."
