Gender equality situation in media in Japan 2023
According to a survey conducted in 2023 on gender equality in Japan, over 44 percent of respondents believed that gender representation in media was equally favorable. However, the share of respondents thinking that the portrayal of men in media is at least somewhat favorable reached around 38 percent, while over 17 percent of survey participants were the opinion that portrayals of women in Japanese media were favorable.
